Committees and Special Events

Non-Construction volunteers play an important role within Habitat NOVA! We are constantly in need of volunteers with various skill sets to assist with our different departments, including:

  • Administrative Support — Our offices are open Monday-Friday and we offer flexible scheduling.
  • Photography — Professional photographers are needed on an occasional basis at a build site or at a special event.
  • Community Ambassador — Help us at special events like community fairs and housing shows.

In addition, you can volunteer with a Committee.  Board Committees support our mission by providing guidance, volunteer capacity and are the training and recruiting ground for Board members.  Committees typically meet once a month. Their membership is composed of Board members, non-Board members, and a staff liaison. Committees make recommendations to the Board, which makes final decisions.

Breakfast Committee

Organizes fundraising breakfasts, including keynote speaker, venue, entertainment and registrations.  Volunteers with event planning and/or fundraising experience are desired.

Faith Relations Committee

Oversees the relationship of HfHNV with faith communities throughout Fairfax and Arlington Counties, and the Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church.

Family Partner Committee

Responsible for providing Habitat homeowners and prospective homeowners with a mutual support system, educational opportunities and a forum for discussions to help break the cycle of poverty.

Family Selection Committee

Responsible for drafting and updating the selection criteria, recruiting and selection of applicants as prospective homeowners.

Development, Marketing & Communications Committee

Responsible for planning fundraising activities and events.  Oversees development and implementation of the ReStore and the Affiliate Marketing Plan.  Represents Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia in the community, including communications with the press.

Volunteers with the following skills are desired for this committee: non-profit development; event planning; marketing; public relations; writing.

ReStore Committee

Responsible for overseeing the operations of the Alexandria and Chantilly ReStores.

Women Build

Responsible for strengthening the Women Build program by increasing membership and coordinating fundraising events.
